Jordan wins the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk Championship and the All-Star Game MVP.

March 18 : Jordan scored 50pts in a 113-103 victory over the Boston Celtics at Chicago. But two days later, the Celtics held Jordan to 26pts and had a 137-107 blowout win at the Boston Garden.

May 21 : Jordan is named NBA Most Valuable Player for the first time after averaging 35.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 3.2 steals. The award makes him the first player to earn MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season. He was unable to receive his 1988 MVP award. He was in North Carolina taking golf lessons, practicing 3 hours a day and playing 36 holes a day.

May 18 : Loss to Detroit in the Eastern Conference Semifinals 4-1.

June 19-21 : Michael played three rounds of golf in three days in three different states - North Carolina, Oregon and Washington.
