Valuable Player for the first time after averaging 35.0 points, 5.5 rebounds,
5.9 assists and 3.2 steals. The award makes him the first player to earn
MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season. He was
unable to receive his 1988 MVP award. He was in North Carolina taking
golf lessons, practicing 3 hours a day and playing 36 holes a day. |
